As I found new ways to eat healthier, I discovered the health benefits of moving over to using sea salt instead of using table salt. There are many upsides to doing this, but the one down side is that it might reduce the amount of iodine in the diet.
That’s because table salt is supplemented with iodine, but sea salt is usually not. I say usually because now I do see some sea salt on the store shelves that does supplement with iodine, but not too often. If you do move over to sea salt, and the sea salt you choose does not supplement with iodine, then this product is a must because it provides a high-quality iodine in the form of kelp.
I worked in a nutrition store, and I have heard the argument that it is better to just eat kelp rather than take it in supplement form. There is a downside to that. Kelp naturally has varying amounts of iodine at different concentrations. Therefore, when you eat kelp, you most likely will be getting varying amounts of iodine. The process of making this into supplement form averages out the iodine and therefore makes it a much more consistent amount of iodine that is being ingested. It is for this reason that I like taking the supplement versus eating the kelp directly.
